In 2021, the paths of sports presenter Nele Schenker and rower Hannes Ocik crossed during an interview. There was a spark, and the two became a couple. Now, around three years later, the journalist and the athlete have taken the next step: Schenker and Ocik have married.
The 34-year-old and her partner, who is one year younger than her, said “I do” in a small circle at Lake Starnberg – she in a cream-colored lace dress with an extra-low neckline, he in a dark blue suit. Around 70 guests from their circle of friends and family were invited to the non-denominational wedding.
To top it all off, the Olympic star rowed his bride across the lake. A special moment for him, as Hannes Ocik revealed to the “Bild” newspaper: “The best thing about our wedding was my beautiful bride. I have rowed many kilometers on the water, but this lap in the wedding single as a newly married couple was very special for me.”
Since not only Nele Schenker, as a Sky presenter, is a big football fan, but also her husband, the rowing trip was not the only homage to the sport: As “Bild” further reports, a saxophonist played the Champions League anthem before Schenker and Hannes Ocik stepped onto a balcony to give a welcoming speech.
The wedding not only marks the beginning of a new phase in life for both of them, but Nele Schenker also has a new last name. She has decided to give up her birth name and take her partner’s name instead. “Taking Hannes’ name was out of the question for me. I am proud to show that I belong to him,” she emphasized.
