Nestlé it continues its commitment to decarbonisation. Therefore, the Company has set its goal, worldwide, to achieve net zero Greenhouse Gas emissions by 2050.

To achieve this, Nestlé has decided to extend the use of HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil, its acronym in English) certified renewable fuel to 36 trucks for its logistics providers, joining the 6 that started using the biofuels this already at the end of the year. 2023. In this way, at the end of the year Nestlé will have 42 logistics vehicles that use this type of fuel, instead of diesel, in its logistics chain.

A year ago, Nestlé launched a pilot project aimed at using this certified advanced biofuel produced from used vegetable oils, in two trucks that transport green coffee from the Port of Barcelona to the Girona factory, and in four other mega trailers that transport the closed way. between the company’s logistics center in Guadalajara and the Girona factory, to transport the two glass jars for filling, as well as Nescafé instant coffee and Nescafé Dolce Gusto capsules.

In this way, a total of 42 trucks, from different logistics providers that work with Nestlé, and cover different routes such as the one that transports containers to the Girona coffee factory; the one that connects Nestlé’s logistics center in Guadalajara with the Girona factory or the one that transports cocoa from the port of Tarragona to the chocolate factory in La Penilla de Cayón (Cantabria), to mention just a few, already use this type of fuel himself. . As a result, at the end of the year, Nestlé will avoid emitting 9,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent each year.

These advanced biofuels are characterized by coming from waste materials of renewable origin such as used cooking oils, agricultural and forestry residues, among others. Therefore, thanks to its use, Nestlé promotes the circular economy and manages to reduce greenhouse gases by 80% per kilometer traveled, compared to the use of fossil fuels such as diesel.

In addition, the use of this latest, sustainable and renewable fuel is fully compatible with the combustion engine vehicles currently used by Nestlé.
