Tel Aviv correspondent’s report

Eighty days since the beginning of the war between Israel and Hamas, the Israeli army suffered more than fifteen casualties during the last weekend and the heavy rains of the last few days literally muddied the ground military operation.

Israel plans to transition from intensive offensive activity to selective operations in various areas of the Gaza Strip, although reinforcing attacks on the city of Khan Yunes, where Hamas leaders are supposedly taking refuge.

Israel is set to demarcate a security strip along the border between Israel and Gaza, more than a kilometer long, and work is already underway to level the area.

Egyptian sources said Hamas and Islamic Jihad rejected a proposal to give up their rule in the Gaza Strip and release more hostages in exchange for a permanent ceasefire.

The proposal, which received support from Qatar, included holding elections in the Strip and protecting Hamas and Islamic Jihad from persecution and prosecution.

On the northern front, the exchange of fire between Israel and Hezbollah continues without developing into an open war, while thousands of Israelis remain evacuated from their homes.
