Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has backed the UAE’s involvement in the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, including sending troops, following the end of the Jewish state’s conflict with the radical Palestinian movement Hamas.
As reported by Day.Az with reference to TASS, it was reported by the portal Axios with reference to two Israeli sources.
According to their information, representatives of the US, UAE and Israel held secret talks organized by Abu Dhabi to discuss a post-conflict settlement in the enclave. Against this background, Netanyahu stated that he supports the UAE’s participation in the reconstruction of Gaza, including sending troops to the enclave, financing the reconstruction of its infrastructure, as well as participation in the reform of the educational system with the aim of deradicalizing the population. According to the portal, holding talks with the US and UAE indicates that the Israeli prime minister is beginning to recognize the need for a realistic plan for a post-war settlement in Gaza.
According to Axios, the UAE had previously developed such a post-conflict reconstruction plan. It envisages, in particular, the deployment of a temporary international mission in the enclave, subject to an official invitation from the Palestinian National Authority (PNA). The plan also sets out several conditions put forward by the UAE, including Israel’s recognition of the PNA’s leadership role in Gaza and its agreement to rebuild the enclave on the basis of a two-state solution.
