Gaza – In the Middle East, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked militants of the Islamist group Hamas to hand over their weapons rather than die for their leader. For its part, the movement that administers the Gaza strip warned that hostages will not be released without negotiations.

“I say to the Hamas terrorists: it’s over. Don’t die for Sinwar. Surrender now!” Benjamin Netanyahu asked last Sunday. In a statement released by his office, he said that “the beginning of the end has arrived” for the Islamist group. He added that dozens of terrorists had already surrendered.

But Hamas responded that none of the hostages will be released unless Israel agrees to exchange them for Palestinian prisoners.

On the same day, the Israeli army intensified attacks in the Gaza Strip. Israeli artillery forces acted inside the Palestinian enclave for the first time since the start of the war, more than two months ago, with fighting taking place across practically the entire territory. According to the Gaza Strip’s Ministry of Health, more than 18,000 people died.

For their part, the Israeli authorities increased the number of deaths in their ranks to 430 since October 7, the day on which a Hamas attack on Israel caused almost 1,200 deaths. Of the 240 people kidnapped that day by the terrorist group, there are still 135 hostages in the Palestinian enclave.
