Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu made it clear to Likud officials that he does not intend to release the prestigious security portfolio into the hands of Bezalel Smotritz, and that he plans to leave the portfolio in Likud’s hands.
According to the report in Khan 11, Netanyahu’s words come against the background of Deri’s decision to take the treasury portfolio that Smutritz had coveted earlier. Now, the treasury portfolio is not left for Netanyahu to give to Smotrich and if he refuses to give the security portfolio – Smotrich will be left with mediocre portfolios.
In the meantime and against the background of Netanyahu’s clarification that he will not let Smotrich handle the security portfolio, after his meeting with Aryeh Deri earlier this evening in order to resolve the portfolio crisis, Religious Zionist Chairman Bezalel Smotrich is preparing for Prime Minister-designate Binyamin Netanyahu to overpower him in the coming days the pressure to drop his demand to receive the security portfolio.
According to Dafna Lial’s report on News 12, Smotrich intends to bring a cure for the plague early and this evening he will meet with the religious Zionist rabbinical elder and the spiritual leader of his party, Rabbi Haim Druckman, in order to get rabbinic backing for his demands.
Other rabbis will join the meeting with Rabbi Druckman. During the meeting, Smotrich will ask for their support in his demand to receive the security, education and religion portfolios in the hands of the party.
