/ A statement issued by the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that he will undergo surgery today, Sunday, to treat a hernia discovered by his doctors.

According to the statement, Netanyahu will be completely anesthetized after doctors discovered the hernia “during a regular examination.”

“During this period, Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Yariv Levin will assume the duties of prime minister,” the statement said.

What is a hernia?

A hernia is a condition that occurs when there is weakness in the muscles that support the abdominal organs and hold them in place. This weakness in the muscles of the abdominal wall allows the internal organs and tissues to expand into it, causing a bulge, which is known as a hernia.

Hernias do not usually cause any symptoms that affect the patient’s quality of life, but sometimes the condition may be serious and require immediate surgical intervention, either through an open operation or using an arthroscope.
