Netanyahu will appoint the political-security cabinet – these are the steps they will consider

by time news

A senior Israeli official said today (Saturday) that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will bring a series of measures to the cabinet for discussion and approval as part of a response to the attacks in Jerusalem. According to the same source, among the issues that the ministers will discuss – promotion of the law to deport families of terrorist operatives, immediate sealing of terrorists’ homes and expediting the granting of weapons licenses to Israeli citizens.

The discussion will be held tonight following the two attacks that happened yesterday and today in Jerusalem. In yesterday’s attack in the Neve Ya’akov neighborhood, seven people were killed and three were injured. In another attack that took place today in the morning hours in the city of David, a father and son were seriously but stably injured.

Other issues that are expected to come up in the discussion are policies regarding the arrest of family members and associates of terrorists, although some of the arrests have already begun, as well as an additional reinforcement of forces in the territories of Judea and Samaria in addition to the reinforcement of forces implemented since last night’s attack.

Following yesterday’s deadly attack, Netanyahu convened a special telephone discussion and then arrived at the scene of the attack, where National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gabir arrived earlier. “We need to act decisively and calmly,” Netanyahu said at the scene. “I call on people not to take the law into their own hands, for this we have the army and the police.”

Officials in the security system warned today of the possibility that, following the two attacks, extreme right-wing activists may carry out acts of revenge against Palestinians in Judea and Samaria.

A security official warned and said today that “when the Prime Minister called yesterday in the field not to take the law into one’s hands, it was not based on a feeling.” The source also added that “there is a very great fear of an operation that will set the area on fire. The security system is aware of this. We are working on the issue and therefore it was decided to also increase the points of friction between Palestinians and Jews in Judea and Samaria and the surrounding area.”
