“It’s great that our friends love Netflix movies and series so much that they want to share them more widely – but the (phenomenon of) sharing accounts between households that is prevalent today undermines our long-term ability to invest and improve the service,” the company said. The new experiment will be conducted in countries: Argentina, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. It joins an earlier experiment, conducted since last March in Chile, Costa Rica and Peru, that allowed Netflix to share accounts with friends, not homes. Users in those countries have complained about a lot of confusion caused by the vague definitions regarding the difference between household members, who can share the same account, and non-household members, so they have to pay extra.
