Some subscribers will soon have to pay a little more each month to be able to benefit from Netflix services. On the occasion of the release of its quarterly results on Wednesday, the platform announced to its shareholders that it was going to increase the price of some of its subscriptions, as spotted BFMTV.

Three countries are affected by this increase, according to the letter sent by the company: the United States, the United Kingdom and France. “Since we bring more value to our subscribers, we sometimes ask them to pay a little more,” explains the company in the letter to its shareholders.

“Essential” and “Premium” subscriptions are affected. The first goes from 8.99 euros per month to 10.99 euros. The second from 17.99 to 19.99 euros. The “Standard with advertising” and “Standard” subscriptions retain their respective monthly prices of 5.99 euros and 13.49 euros.

Subscriptions on the rise

These increases come after a major change last May: the end of free account sharing outside the home. From now on, you have to pay 5.99 euros more per month to share your account.

This development seems beneficial for the company, which has seen “a low level of churn” and the “conversion of those who were using a third party account either to subscription or to paying for the option to add an account”.

Netflix’s results for the third quarter of the year are also very good. The platform gained 10% subscribers, or 8.76 million additional people. In total, at the end of September, the company had 247 million subscriptions. It also posted a better-than-expected quarterly net profit. It remains to be seen whether customers are ready to put a little more money into their wallets to take advantage of the streaming service.
