Netflix released the first trailer for the new animated film “Pinocchio” (Pinocchio) by Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro (“The Shape of Water”, “Pan’s Labyrinth”), which brings to life not only the wooden boy but all his magical friends from Carlo Collodi’s classic book.
Del Toro presents a reworking of the story that combines magic and darkness, in which the wooden doll miraculously rises to cheer the aching heart of Geppetto the carpenter. In his quest to become a real boy, Pinocchio embarks on a rebellious adventure and tries to find his place in the world.
The trailer is led by the cricket Sebastian, in the voice of Ewan McGregor (“Obi and Kenobi”), who writes the experiences of Pinocchio in his diary. Sebastian wants to show us everything he has learned throughout his life about love, loss and imperfect relationships between fathers and sons.
Most of all, the cricket makes it clear to us that even though we think we know the story of Pinocchio – we actually don’t know what he knows, as someone who was really there.
While the trailer puts the emphasis on the love and meaning that Pinocchio gives to the old carpenter, we are also exposed to the multitude of characters that we will meet on the journey among them the magical spirits that breathe life into the doll, the people of the urban circus and the blue fairy.
The film is led by an impressive team of voice actors, including Tilda Swinton (“The dead are not dead”), Finn Wolfhard (“strange things”), John Turturro (“Disconnect”), Ron Perlman (“Sons of Anarchy”), Christoph Waltz (“Inglourious Basterds”), Cate Blanchett (“Thor: Ragnarok”) fDavid Bradley (“Game of Thrones”) as Geppetto.
The film joins other stop-motion animation films that Netflix has invested in recently in an attempt to breathe new life into the genre. This year the platform uploaded the anthology film “the house” (The House) and soon we will also be able to watch the stop motion movie “Wendall and Wilde” With Jordan Peele and Keegan Michael Key.
Also, Netflix is currently working on new movies by “Wallace and Gromit” and“Rooster Rebellion” (Chicken Run).
“Guillermo del Toro Presents: Pinocchio” will be released on Netflix in December 2022.
