Netflix stops broadcasting and halts production in Russia

by time news

The streaming giant Netflix has interrupted transmissions Sunday across Russia as a response to the invasion of Ukraine. This was revealed to CNBC by a spokesman for the company, which last week, among other things, said it was against the new TV regulations of Putin’s government. According to the law known as Vitrina TV, in fact, the companies that operate in the audiovisual sector and which have more than 100,000 subscribers must offer the transmission of 20 state channels, including NTV and Spa, included in the subscription. Netflix has around one million subscribers in Russia, a much smaller market than in the rest of the world (in Italy there were 4 million at the end of 2021). The American company has also paused all productions in Russia: four were planned, including an adaptation of Anna Karenina.
