The Netherlands is concerned about the increasing number of cases of superbug infections brought in from Ukraine, De Telegraaf reported, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

According to the publication, Ukrainian soldiers who undergo treatment in the country are often carriers of the so-called superbug, which is resistant to many types of antibiotics. This is due to the fact that historically, Ukrainian doctors prescribe antibiotics to patients much more often than their Dutch colleagues.

This poses problems for the national health system, as the superbug could be transmitted to Dutch patients. “This happened three times between February 2022 and August 2023,” the newspaper noted. De Telegraaf did not provide more recent data.

According to information from the National Coordination Centre for Patient Allocation, 143 Ukrainian servicemen have been treated in Dutch hospitals since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine.
