Netherlands suffers viral outbreak and will have embezzlement against France

The Netherlands and France face each other this Friday for the debut of the Qualifiers for the euro 2024. However, Ronald Koeman’s national team suffered a viral outbreak and five players had to leave the training ground, including first-choices Cody Gakpo and Matthijs de Ligt.

In a note released this Thursday morning, the Dutch federation informed that goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, from Anderlecht, defender Sven Botman, from Newclastle, midfielder Joey Veerman, from PSV, and Cody Gakpo, from Liverpoole Matthijs de Ligt, do Bayern Munchenwere victims of a viral infection.

To replace the absences, coach Koeman summoned defender Stefan de Vrij, from Inter Milan, midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, from Bayern Munich, and goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen, from Vitesse. Gravenberch and Scherpen were training with the under-21s in the Netherlands and joined the pros in Paris, France.

In addition to these absences, the Dutch team will also be without midfielder Frenkie De Jong, from Barcelonaand Ajax’s Steven Bergwijn through injury, while Inter Milan winger Denzel Dumfries will serve a suspension.

The federation also announced that the squad list will be reviewed after the duel against France, this Friday, from 16:45 (Brasília time), at the Stade de France.
