Two of the four arrested by the Civil Guard in the framework of the Monybet operation carried out in the province of Cádiz, which has allowed the dismantling of a criminal organization dedicated to fixing football matches to defraud gaming operators, were arrested and at the beginning of 2023 by the National Police within the Coniferous operation, as ABC has been able to confirm. The two leaders of the dismantled network already appeared on the list of the 23 arrested in January for fixing matches in the lower categories of Spanish football, the Gibraltar National League and the Andorra League. Together with these two leaders of the gang, the Civil Guard has arrested a goalkeeper and a defender from Conil CF, while he continues to investigate another 34 people. Six of them are active footballers and, as this newspaper has learned, all belong to the staff of the aforementioned Third Division club from Cádiz.

As ABC has learned, the matches rigged by the detainees would be at least 13 and the two Conil CF players arrested would have received between 1,000 and 5,000 euros for each of the arranged matches. According to the Civil Guard, the organization would have obtained benefits in prizes of more than one million euros.

The leaders of the now dismantled organization in Cádiz used a modus operandi similar to the one they used before being arrested in the framework of the Coniferous operation. Once the fixing of a match was arranged and closed, it was time to place sports bets, for which they resorted to the identity of other people to whom they paid a percentage of the benefits obtained in each match or gave them information. about other matches for which they bet.
Unlike what happened in the rigging discovered in La Conifera, ABC has been able to confirm that in all the matches investigated in the Monybet operation, the bets were placed online and never in gambling venues.
During the searches carried out by the Civil Guard, 16,695 euros in cash have been located, various cryptocurrency accounts, documentation related to bets and a large amount of computer equipment for mobile telephony and storage. The organization would have obtained benefits in prizes of more than one million euros. In addition, it is estimated that there would be more than 30,000 people affected by bets made in good faith.
In the statement made public this Thursday by Conil CF, the entity from Cádiz regretted that “the shield and the name of our club and what they represent with so many years of history, are involved in this type of plot and tricks.”
