The dean of Unilab, Roque Albuquerque, highlighted his complete satisfaction with the creation of the new academic unit. According to Albuquerque, after six years of stagnation and cuts in higher education institutions, “we are in a new, very important moment, especially for the municipalities of the Maciço de Baturité”. He recalled that the region has “a committed governor, son of the soil, and a minister from Ceará who is also committed, in addition to being able to count on a senator and the president of Alece”.

Still in November 2021, the Medical Schools Monitoring and Monitoring Committee (Camem) issued a favorable opinion on the act authorizing the start of the Unilab Medicine course. Now, the last step is for the Ministry of Education to issue the authorization act.

According to the director of the Institute of Health Sciences (ICS), Juliana Celestino, the Academic Unit in Baturité was created with the aim, initially, of implementing the Medicine course in the city, especially given the fact that the Regional Hospital will be built in Baturité , “which would even help to retain medical professionals who were in the service, and could also work at Unilab, not to mention the fact that it is another excellent field of practice, in addition to the others that the city already has”, he informed.

The new academic unit must have spaces reserved for housing technicians, students and teachers. To this end, the Municipality of Baturité will donate 2 hectares of land, on the banks of CE 356, close to the site where the Maciço de Baturité Regional Hospital will be built. While the construction of the Unit is not completed, the municipality of Baturité has committed to carrying out negotiations for the availability of the building of the Instituto Nossa Senhora Auxiliadora (Insa) – Salesianas, located at Avenida Dom Bosco, 310 – Centro – Baturité.

In addition, it was committed to making adjustments to this building, seeking partnership with the State Government to carry out renovations, painting, electrical, hydraulic, data network, among others. “We are working so that the Medicine course starts in the 2023.2 semester, that is, January 18, 2024, but we are still waiting for the authorization by the MEC”, declared Celestino.
