BOLZANO. Appeal to the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matthew Salviniafter that Asfinag – the public company that manages Austrian roads – has announced the introduction of new restrictions on freight traffic on the Brenner axis. “A few days ago – a note from the associations informs – Asfinag announced its intention to limit traffic on the stretch of the A13 motorway that affects the Ponte Luegfor safety reasons, starting from January 1, 2025 and until the construction of the new viaduct that will replace the current bridge, estimated at no less than 3 years”. The associations have asked Salvini to represent theneed for coordination between Member States which precedes the introduction of national measures on transport arteries that are fundamental in the international circulation of goods, as in the case of the new restrictions on the Lueg Bridge along the Brenner Axis, part of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor and which represents one of the major connectors between Northern and Southern Europe.

“These new restrictions will further complicate transit at the Brenner Pass”, conclude the road haulage associations, asking that “at the same time as any measure limiting the circulation capacity of heavy vehicles at the Brenner Pass, the night-time ban on the A12 and the increase in the night-time toll on the A13 be suspended”.
