More than 156,000 vehicles have been registered in France. Stellantis remains in the lead.

Sales of new cars in France continued to increase in September with an increase of 10.7% in registrations of new private vehicles compared to September 2022, announced the Automotive Platform (PFA) on Sunday, which represents manufacturers and equipment suppliers in the sector. Good news after the strong increase recorded in August, also over one year. A total of 156,303 new cars were registered in September, according to seasonally adjusted data. Sales of light utility vehicles are also increasing, climbing 7.3%, with 32,939 registrations. Conversely, sales of industrial vehicles (over 5.1 tonnes) fell by 35.7%, totaling 2,358 registrations.

Stellantis remained at the top of the new passenger car market in September by capturing 28% of sales, but its sales fell by 2.2% compared to the same month of 2022. With 43,710 registrations alone, the Stellantis group ahead of Renault (25.3% of the market) and Toyota, far behind (5.5%). Renault group sales jumped 14.4%, with 39,555 registrations. Those of the Toyota group plunged 12.1%, to 8,622 registrations. Sales of all other manufacturers increased by 23.7% (64,416 registrations).

Electric models captured 19% of total passenger car sales last month, an increase of three points in terms of market share compared to September 2022 and an increase of six points compared to the same month of 2021. Continuing its progress on the French market, Tesla sold 5,557 cars there last month, thus recording a jump of 60.5% in its sales compared to September 2022. The Californian manufacturer, pioneer of electric, thus sees its share of the market of passenger cars reach 3.55% in September, surpassing those of the brands BMW (3.14%), Mercedes (3.13%), Audi (3.11%) and Ford (3.09%).
