New Case of Sheep and Goat Plague Detected in Corinthia: Major Veterinary Operation Underway

by time news
In a post regarding the new case of sheep and goat plague in Korinthia, Minister of Rural Development Kostas Tsiaras announced that the largest veterinary operation is being conducted.

In his post on Twitter, he wrote: “After intensive tracing, unfortunately, a new case of sheep and goat plague has been identified in Korinthia. As in Thessaly, where the largest veterinary operation is underway, all necessary protocols stipulated by the European regulation will be implemented.”

It is noted that after the detection of a case of sheep and goat plague in a livestock unit in mountainous Korinthia, a meeting was held at the offices of the regional unit aimed at, as announced, “addressing the problem and taking the measures mandated by the European regulation for limiting and eradicating the disease.”

As stated earlier by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Rural Development, Giorgos Stratakos, who chaired the meeting, “after the identification of the case, the main measures being taken are the culling of all animals in the unit, followed by sanitary burial, disinfection, and closing the specific unit for as long as necessary, so that we can ensure there is no longer any infectious power.”

“Of course,” he continued, “what we must mention is that in order for the measures to succeed, there must be very good cooperation among the farmers within the two protection and surveillance zones around the unit where the case was identified, with the veterinary services of the Peloponnese Region.”

On his part, the Regional Governor of Peloponnese, Dimitris Ptohos, stated in his remarks that “our response was immediate, aiming to limit and take the necessary measures” and added: “The broad meeting that was held also shows the readiness of all involved. We are following the protocol, we have confidence in our services, and it is important to reiterate that it does not transmit to humans.”
