(ANSA) – ROME, JULY 25 – The new head of Civil Protection, Fabio Ciciliano, took office this morning. Medical director of the State Police, and current commissioner for Caivano, Ciciliano takes over from Fabrizio Curcio. “It’s a thrilling challenge that I embrace with great responsibility,” he said during the presentation to the press. “Coming home is always a great thing and shortens the time to act. There is awareness of the effort, but as I always say the team wins together because there has only been one Maradona in history.” The first steps that the new head of the Department is preparing to take include “creating a new awareness among children in schools.” “I hope,” he added, “that in 10-20 years we will leave a place where the culture of prevention and rescue is within each of us.” “We – concluded Ciciliano – are very good at managing emergencies but less so at managing the ordinary. The culture of emergency and prevention is not seen, it is done in silence, it is not earned in the short term, it does not make the front page but it allows the community to save money and reduce the incidence of mortality”. The inauguration ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Civil Protection, Nello Musumeci, and the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council, Alfredo Mantovano. “The government’s line has changed – said Musumeci -, it focuses on strengthening prevention, on the requalification of emergencies and on shortening distances, times and methods after the emergency”. “Civil Protection is a pillar of our institutions – commented Mantovano -, it enjoys esteem and consideration even beyond national borders. Among the crucial challenges that arise is certainly that of prevention”. (ANSA).
