1.5 million dollars were invested in the endowment of the new Comprehensive Health Book

The printing of the new Comprehensive Health Book (LIS) had an investment of more than 1.5 million dollars, within the framework of the National Strategy Ecuador Grows without Child Malnutrition, an initiative that seeks to prevent and reduce this condition in children and girls under 2 years of age.

More than 470,000 notebooks have been distributed in 1,932 establishments of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) throughout the country. The LIS update allows unifying the information on the benefits received by pregnant women and children under 5 years of age in a single document, facilitating the monitoring of care and controls by health personnel, families and caregivers. Its use is mandatory in all MSP establishments, including the public and private network.

Health personnel deliver the booklet to pregnant women, family members or caregivers of children under 5 years of age at their first health check-up. In the event that the mother of a boy or girl has not received it during her pregnancy, she will do so at the time of the birth of her son or daughter.

The LIS records information on pregnant women such as: prenatal check-ups, vaccination, weight gain, attendance at educational sessions, and perinatal information. In addition, in the section for boys and girls, newborn data, growth and development controls, growth curves, disease screening, vaccination and attendance at educational sessions are recorded.

Likewise, the document contains recommendations for a healthy pregnancy, iron and folic acid supplementation, childbirth and transportation planning, danger signs during pregnancy, and infant feeding.

Since January of this year, training processes have been carried out on the correct filling, handling and interpretation of the information recorded in this document. 1,440 officials of the Ministry of Public Health have participated in this process.
