New corona infections and hospital numbers are increasing again

In Austria, 24,788 new corona infections have been registered in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of the Interior and Health announced on Tuesday. Another 32 deaths related to Covid-19 infection were reported. 2,553 people required inpatient treatment in a hospital at the beginning of March, an increase of 118 from yesterday.

191 people are being cared for in intensive care units, two more than yesterday, but on a weekly basis that number is down eight, while the total number of hospitalizations rose, by 154 people, or 6.4 percent, over the week. The seven-day incidence also fell slightly, down 2,111 cases per 100,000 population from 2,144.4 cases last Tuesday, with 266,535 active cases down from 274,134 the previous week, down 2.85 percent.

32 deaths since yesterday increase the seven-day average to 30 a day, it was 210 within a week and the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 14,841 deaths in Austria since it broke out. A total of 757,864 rapid PCR and antigen tests were reported in the past 24 hours, of which 563,916 were meaningful PCR tests with a positive rate of 4.4 percent. This 24-hour value is below last week’s average of 5.3 percent positive share.

5,413 vaccinations were carried out on Monday, after 5,751 in the previous week. According to the data from the e-vaccination pass, a total of 6,798,075 people have received at least one vaccination, 6,242,208 people and thus 69.9 percent of Austrians have valid vaccination protection, an increase of 0.1 percent compared to the previous week.

Of the 5,413 vaccinations on Monday, 3,533 were almost two thirds (65.27 percent) of them third vaccinations. The protection rate (valid vaccination certificate) is still highest in Burgenland with 76 percent and Upper Austria is still in last place with 65.5 percent

The federal state with the highest seventh-day incidence is currently Lower Austria with 2,312.9, followed by Vorarlberg, Upper Austria and Salzburg (2,311.2, 2,229.3 and 2,177.4 respectively). Styria (2,062.1), Tyrol (2,059.7), Carinthia (1,972.5), Vienna (1,905) and Burgenland (1,901.3) follow. With the exception of Carinthia, the incidences have increased slightly in all federal states.
