This was announced by Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (47, SPD) immediately after the cabinet meeting and the federal-state switching conference with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (63, SPD).
Children up to 14 years are excluded.
Why already at Christmas?
The contact restrictions are to be introduced nationwide by December 28th at the latest.
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is already doing this on December 24, because many people in the country are still not vaccinated, the infection rate is high and the hospitals are heavily burdened.
“We are very serious, very worried,” said Schwesig. “The situation will worsen dramatically, the scientists tell us.”
The cabinet will meet on Wednesday and incorporate the measures into the state ordinance.
Tourism and restaurants are not affected. Nothing will change for schools and daycare centers either.
Schwesig appealed again urgently to get vaccinated and boosted as soon as possible. In this way, serious illnesses could be averted. You shouldn’t wait until the new year with that.
“Omikron is now spreading and the vaccination protection needs a week to build up,” said the head of government.
A crisis team is to be set up at Interior Minister Christian level (47, SPD) to protect the so-called critical infrastructure – such as the police, care or schools. It must be expected that a large number of people will be infected with Omikron and have to stay at home, said the Prime Minister.
“We are preparing for a disaster in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.” The critical infrastructure would be at risk if a third of the employees were absent. The Bundeswehr is to be increasingly asked for help.

According to Schwesig, museums, theaters, cinemas, socio-cultural centers, amusement arcades, the indoor areas of zoos and other leisure facilities are expected to close nationwide from December 27th. This is already the case in five of the eight counties and urban districts in MV.
According to Schwesig, the background is the persistently high number of hospital admissions. The so-called hospitalization incidence was above the threshold of 9 for the second day in a row on Tuesday. If this is also the case on Wednesday, the facilities across the country will have to close, as a government spokesman explained. The requirement in the Corona state regulation is to be tightened accordingly on Wednesday.
