New Call of Duty Game to Be a New Black Ops Title Set During Gulf War

Exciting new details have emerged about the upcoming Call of Duty game, and it looks like fans of the franchise are in for a treat. According to reporting from Windows Central, next year’s entry in Activision’s long-running first-person shooter franchise will be a new Black Ops title led by developer Treyarch, set during the early 1990s Gulf War.

The last Black Ops game was 2020’s Cold War, so it has been a while since the subtitle has been attached to a Call of Duty game. However, it seems that the franchise is revisiting it for the 2024 entry, with a game that will depict the war between Iraq and a U.S.-led coalition of 42 countries.

According to Windows Central, the game is currently referred to as “Black Ops 6” and codenamed “Cerberus” internally. It will feature more traditional military combat gadgets and tech seen in older Black Ops games, as opposed to the more modern and futuristic guns in recent Call of Duty titles.

The game will reportedly seek to tell a “nuanced narrative of the Gulf War,” focusing on the different factions involved in the conflict. It may also feature maps from prior Black Ops games and a round-based Zombies mode, according to leaked game files that have popped up online.

While none of this has been confirmed by Activision or Treyarch yet, it appears that the game is targeting a late fall/early winter release in 2024. My city reached out to Activision for comment but has not received a response yet.

With the recent controversy surrounding Modern Warfare III, which faced criticism for its campaign and multiplayer, players are undoubtedly hoping for a better experience with the next Call of Duty game. Developers are reportedly working hard to avoid rushing the game to release, which could mean a more polished and enjoyable gaming experience for fans of the franchise.
