South African Police Close Training Camp After Detaining 95 Libyans
South African police have shut down a training camp after arresting 95 Libyans on charges of illegal immigration and unauthorized military training. The camp, suspected to be a secret army base, provided training to individuals from conflict-stricken countries.
The police stated that the trainees had been granted visas for security guard training but were actually undergoing military training at the facility. The private security company running the camp, Militus Day Academy, is registered but does not possess the necessary licenses for such activities.
The investigation revealed that some of the trainers were not South African citizens and employed training methods from other countries. The company’s license has been canceled, and its owners face charges related to violating the law.
Reports suggest that the group was training forces loyal to Khalifa Haftar, a commander in the Libyan National Army. The Libyans allegedly entered South Africa illegally and used deceptive methods to obtain visas.
The court has postponed the ruling in the case until August 26 to conduct further investigations.
