Among the most prevalent sexual dysfunctions is premature ejaculation. The disease is quite common, affecting 1 in 3 Brazilians over 18 years old, according to data released by the Brazilian Society of Urology — SBU. However, a revolutionary medicine recently approved by the National Health Surveillance Agency — Anvisa — can eliminate the problem.
It is the first specific medicine for the treatment of premature ejaculation with indication in the package insert and use on demand. The drug approved in Brazil, however, is already used in more than 50 countries, such as Uruguay, ArgentinaAustralia, United Kingdom and Italy.

People who suffer from premature ejaculation report that they usually reach orgasm in less than a minute. Experts consider, however, that the normal time, from the moment of penetration to ejaculation, is between three and six minutes. Anxiety is the factor that is at the root of the dysfunction problem.
Two types of premature ejaculation
The problem is divided into two categories: the primary, when the patient suffers from it since the first sexual intercourse; and the secondary, when he presents the symptoms of premature ejaculation as a side effect of some factor that occurred — usually, of a psychological nature.
The difficulty in maintaining a long-lasting sexual relationship can cause emotional damage to the patient, as well as problems for the relationship.
What medicine is this?
The drug was given the trade name of prosoy, and is marketed by Farmoquímica. With the active principle of dapoxetine hydrochloride, the drug must be taken one to three hours before sexual intercourse – that is why it is considered on demand.

Dapoxetine has the ability to activate seratoninergic receptors, thus delaying ejaculation. This occurs because the substance stimulates serotonin 1A receptors, the consequence of this stimulation is an increase in the excitation threshold. According to urologist Fernando Facio, a member of the SBU, this is the great differential of the new medication approved in Brazil.
With a red label indicating controlled sale, the medicine must be prescribed by a doctor. O prosoy it is sold in tablets in two types of dosages: 30 and 60 mg. The leaflet recommends, however, that the patient begins by ingesting a dose of 30 mg and takes a maximum of one tablet every 24 hours.
