Ecuador has a new ambassador to the United Statesstarting this Thursday, June 27, 2024.

The Foreign Ministry reported that the Government of the United States granted acceptance and approval for Christian Espinosa Canizares.

Who is Ecuador’s new ambassador to the United States?
Cristian Espinosa is a career diplomat since 1987, specializing in multilateralism, international trade and trade negotiations.

He has been permanent representative of Ecuador to the United Nations in Geneva and New York.

He has held the positions of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Director of Inter-Institutional Relations and Head of the Economic Section at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He also served as Metropolitan Director of International Relations for the Municipality of Quito.

Cristian Espinosa served as coordinator representing Quito for the United Nations Habitat III Conference.

He has been President of the Council of Chambers and Associations of Production of Ecuador and Executive Director of the Ecuadorian American Chamber of Commerce.

He was Director General of the Andean Community and Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Integration, responsible for Ecuador’s trade negotiations.

The new ambassador acted as Chief Negotiator of Ecuador for the Free Trade Agreement with the United States.

He holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a BA/MA in Philosophy and Economics from Boston University. He speaks Spanish, English, German, French and Japanese.
