The Venezuelan opposition has denounced a new episode of siege at the Argentine embassy in Caracas.
This Saturday, September 7, the Venezuelan opposition denounced a “new chapter” of what they called a siege by the government of President-elect Nicolás Maduro, due to the fact that “hooded” agents were stationed outside the Argentine embassy in Caracas, where six collaborators of opposition leader María Corina Machado have taken refuge since March.

Two of the refugees at the diplomatic headquarters (guarded since August 1 by Brazil after Caracas broke relations with Argentina and other countries in the region due to their positions on the controversial elections) denounced the situation since Friday, which continued throughout the night and into Saturday morning.
According to one of them, Pedro Urruchurtuinternational coordinator of the opposition divergent Corina Machado, through his account on X published two videos, which confirmed that there are patrols and armed hooded officials at the site.

Former congressman Omar González also said that the Argentine embassy had its electricity cut off and that it was being besieged by agents of the Sebin (Bolivian National Intelligence Service) and other security elements.

In response to this, the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, a critic of the Venezuelan government, stated in X that “these threats and actions are completely contrary to law and are not acceptable in any way by the international community.”

Something worth noting is that this situation occurs a few hours after the Argentine government rejected Venezuela’s “unilateral decision” to revoke the authorization granted to Brazil to guard the headquarters of the Argentine diplomatic mission in Caracas, which it denounced is surrounded by Venezuelan security forces, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“The Argentine Republic rejects this unilateral measure and warns the Venezuelan government that it must respect the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which enshrines the inviolability of mission premises,” the statement posted on social media X said.
“Any attempt to interfere or kidnap asylum seekers staying in our official residence will be strongly condemned by the international community,” he warned.
