The leaders of the countries of the European Union (EU) have agreed on a new package of sanctions against Russia against the background of its announced military operation in Ukraine. The sanctions will affect energy and transport, dual-use goods, as well as visa policy. In addition, the EU will expand the “black list” of individuals.

A European Council press release says the EU condemns Russia’s “unprovoked and unjustified military aggression” against Ukraine. Due to the escalation of the conflict, European countries decided to tighten anti-Russian sanctions. The new restrictions will affect the financial sector, energy and transport, dual-use goods, as well as export control and its financing, and visa policy. In addition, the “black list” of Russian individuals will be replenished. Other details about the prepared sanctions are not given.
