New Exhibition: Membership in the Community and Its Relationship to Mental Health

On Thursday, the exhibition “Belonging” opened at the Tiberias 15 Community Center – a product of a broader project of the Tiberias 15 Community Center and the “Fellows for Adults” program, which aims to express the connection between community membership and mental health, which we all experience in different ways. The creators exhibiting in the exhibition are of diverse ages, populations, professions and backgrounds, some dealing with mental disabilities and some not. Most of the creators met in Tiberias 15 for creative workshops that dealt with the connection between community belonging and mental health that took place last month. The workshops were delivered by local artists in the fields of poetry writing (moderator: Lilach Weber), collage (moderator: Alexandra Rodstein), and photography (moderator: Tamar Tzur).

A belonging exhibition is an opportunity to see our environment through the eyes of others; Look for the common and appreciate the difference. The works present the voices, stories and experiences of the creators: coping, human connections, stigma, health, joy of life and community. The creators share their lives, so that we get to know and understand each other and create a healthy and diverse community.

The community house at 15 Tiberias Street, a branch of the Kehilat Hadar community center, is a neighborhood-community center for communities, art, knowledge, mind and body. The house hosts a wide range of activities and classes, individuals and groups, as well as organizations from Israel and abroad Professional study and training in the decor of a preserved stone house that is more than 100 years old.

The “Graduate Fellows” program is a program that works to heal people who are dealing with a mental disability through community integration. Its purpose is to create connections between the person and his community, through integration in leisure, social and volunteer activities that are open to the general public. The program works to develop relationships between the individual and the community, thus enabling each individual to feel meaning, commitment and belonging. In the Hadar neighborhood, “Fellows for Graduates” operates at the Tiberias 15 community center and the Jerusalem community center.
