Google Maps is introducing a feature that allows users to report traffic disruptions in real time. The innovation promises more efficient route planning and fewer traffic jams.

Google has introduced an update for its map service. As the tech portal “Smartdroid” reports, a new reporting function for Google Maps has been integrated into Android devices, allowing users to report traffic disruptions in real time.

The new report button allows drivers to quickly and easily report various types of obstructions and disruptions during active navigation. These include traffic jams, accidents, construction sites, closed lanes, breakdowns and objects on the road. These reports are immediately displayed on the map and are therefore available to all users who are planning or driving the same route.

To report an incident, users simply need to tap the speech bubble icon with the plus sign located on the right side of the screen. This will open a window called “Add Report” where different categories of traffic incidents can be selected. Once selected, users have the opportunity to review their report and, if necessary, adjust or undo it.

A particularly useful feature is the display of the number of reports for a specific event. This allows users to see at a glance how many other road users have already reported the disruption. This increases the reliability of the information and helps in assessing the traffic situation.

While the new reporting feature is already available for Android users on Google Maps, Android Auto users will have to be patient. An exact date for the introduction of the feature in Android Auto has not yet been announced.
