New FluCov Dashboard: Continuous up-to-date insight into the circulation of influenza and COVID-19 in 22 countries worldwide

by time news

The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 in 2019 has a major impact on the global circulation of respiratory viruses, including influenza. To understand the impact of SARS-CoV-2 on influenza activity, the new FluCov Dashboard, launched by Nivel, provides a clear picture of the current and past circulation (as of 2019) of both viruses, in a large number of countries (22 ) spread all over the world.

In this way, we present important data for the development of preventive strategies and provide tools to improve public health at national and global level.

Insight into the impact of corona on flu

Real-time surveillance data on SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses is continuously downloaded. With this data we make a broad representative sample of the occurrence of corona and flu in 22 countries every week. The results can be analyzed in terms of geography and level of development and lend themselves to studying the impact of corona on influenza. The FluCov Dashboard can be found on the international Nivel website.

Look at the FluCov Dashboard: by selecting one or more countries, periods and viruses you will get a presentation of ‘new cases’, ‘percentage that tests positive’ and ‘a deep dive into the circulating influenza viruses’.

Real-time data to support prevention and control measures

Insights into the current circulation of the two viruses in 22 countries can be analyzed in terms of geography and level of development. They can also support policies aimed at preventing or combating (increase in) virus activity.

About the FluCov project

The project is financed by Sanofi, through a partnership agreement with Nivel. FluCov has three objectives: 1) to document and communicate the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on influenza activity; 2) document and communicate measures for the prevention and control of influenza (eg vaccination) in the coming years; 3) model and share scenarios for influenza activity in the Southern Hemisphere (Winter 2022) and Northern Hemisphere (Winter 2022/23).

The FluCov Dashboard is one of the deliverables of the FluCoV project, alongside Epi-Bulletins, research results, summaries and reports. These are all accessible through the international Nivel FluCov project site.
