The Directorate of Energy, Hydrocarbons and Mines (DGEHM) announced to the Salvadoran population the new reference prices for fuels, in effect from July 23 to August 5, 2024.

Premium gasoline has increased to $0.06; regular gasoline $0.06; and Diesel $0.01.

In addition, the DGEHM provided details of the international factors that influence fuel prices:

-The International Energy Agency (IEA) reported sharp declines in oil reserves, with a decrease of 8.3 million barrels during the first half of July, adding to the reduction of 7.4 million barrels at the end of June. These reductions have caused increases in the international prices of petroleum derivatives.

-Temporary closures of platforms, refineries and ports caused by the passage of Hurricane Beryl through the Gulf of Mexico and the state of Texas in the United States, causing increases in international hydrocarbon prices.

-New attacks in the Red Sea by Houthi rebels on oil and raw material tankers, supported by Iran, causing alarm in the international prices of oil and its derivatives, due to increases in transport costs and delays in product delivery times.
