Barcelona Sporting Club has welcomed its first official signing for the second half of the 2024 season: this Tuesday, Octavio Rivero, the Uruguayan striker who has already worn the shirt of the Ídolo del Astillero, was presented.
His arrival was announced with a special production by BSC, starring some of the club’s members. Rivero, 32, comes from playing for Defensor Sporting in his country, has successfully passed the medical tests carried out in Guayaquil and has signed a contract that binds him to the team for the next two years. Rivero’s reception took place in the club’s presidential suite, where Antonio Álvarez, Barcelona’s top executive, sealed the link with the forward. A group of club members also participated in the event, who won a raffle and had the opportunity to be part of the Uruguayan’s presentation video at BSC. Rivero’s arrival at Barcelona de Guayaquil fills the void left by Francisco Fydriszewski, who abruptly ended his contract with the Toreros due to a lack of payment and will continue his career in football abroad. Barcelona announced in a statement that Rivero has already played his first minutes with the team in a practice match against 9 de Octubre, held on the alternate Sigifredo Agapito Chuchuca pitch at the Banco Pichincha stadium. Rivero has played in Uruguay, Canada, Chile and Mexico, for clubs such as Central Español, Rentistas, O’Higgins, Vancouver Whitecaps, Colo Colo, Atlas, Nacional (Uruguay), Santos Laguna and Defensor Sporting. Rivero has won seven titles: the Canadian Soccer Championship, the Copa Chile and the Chilean Super Cup twice with Colo Colo, the Chilean Primera División with Colo Colo and the Uruguay Cup with Defensor Sporting.
