Members of the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State, meeting in Cairo, announced their agreement to adhere to the necessity of holding presidential and legislative elections in accordance with the laws agreed upon and issued by the House of Representatives, while working to continue expanding the circle of consensus.

According to the final statement of the consultative meeting held today in Cairo, the two sides agreed to submit a roadmap proposal by members of the two councils as “the basic path to completing the remaining necessary requirements to reach the elections.”

In addition, it was agreed to form a new unified government by calling on the House of Representatives to announce the opening of nominations and begin receiving recommendations and studying the files of candidates.

The statement urged the need to intensify and unify efforts to end the state of political and institutional division and called on the international community to support national consensus and respect the will of the national decision, its sovereignty and the unity of Libyan territory.

The attendees stressed the importance of continuing the direct national dialogue, rejecting “the principle of seizing power by imposing a fait accompli.”

The attendees from both sides called on all national forces to support the efforts of the two councils to restore the country’s security, sovereignty and territorial integrity, according to the statement.
