In a special session, Wolfgang Mückstein’s successor introduced himself to the parliamentarians.

Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen will swear in the new Social and Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) tomorrow, Tuesday. The President’s Office confirmed the appointment on Monday. After his contact with a corona infected person last Thursday, the Federal President has now tested negative three times and can therefore end his self-imposed quarantine.

Rauch’s appointment and swearing-in as Wolfgang Mückstein’s successor can thus take place on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Immediately afterwards, at around 1 p.m., Mückstein will be handed over to Rauch in the ministry.

Explanations by Nehammer and Kogler

The new minister will then introduce himself to parliamentarians in a special session of the National Council from 2.30 p.m. There will also be statements by Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) and Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) and a subsequent debate. The topic will not only be the appointment of the previous Vorarlberg State Council as the new minister, but also the current situation in Ukraine.

Mückstein announced his resignation last Thursday. The reason he gave was that he was no longer able to do 100 percent every day, as well as threats against himself and his family. The Extended Federal Executive Committee of the Greens had then designated the former Vorarlberg Provincial Councilor Rauch as his successor on Friday.
