The Ministry of Citizen Protection has made changes in the issuance process for the new ID cards. The goal, according to what was announced, is the best and fastest service for the citizens.
New identities in every AT
In particular, with the decision of the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, citizens now have the opportunity to submit the supporting documents for the issuance of a new identity card to the competent Security Services, regardless of their place of residence. The authority to issue Identity Cards is no longer limited to the local level.
The security services, such as the Security Departments for the regions of the Security Directorate of Attica and Thessaloniki, as well as the Sub-Directorates and Security Departments in the rest of the country, will serve all citizens. In the absence of such Services, identity cards are issued by the Police Department, which exercises security responsibilities in its area of jurisdiction, and in the absence thereof, the Sub-Directorate of Police located in the City of Police issues identity cards. the area in question.
How to schedule an appointment
The citizen selects in his application, any Issuing Authority he wishes, regardless of his residence or place of residence, a specific day and time from the list of availability, so that it can be served personally. Its details are automatically drawn from the Citizen Register and the National Contact Register (EMEp). In case he has not updated his details in the EMEp, he should update them on the spot or complete them by confirmation.
He can also submit a request for an appointment with the same procedure on behalf of his minor children, who are over 12 years old.
When the application is submitted, he receives an email containing the basic information to process the appointment, as well as the contact details of the Issuing Authority he has chosen. The appointment scheduling request can be rescheduled or canceled or resubmitted no later than one hour before the start of the scheduled appointment. At various intervals before the start of the scheduled appointment, the interested party receives a reminder message from the platform to the email they registered.
It is worth noting that, especially in case of loss or theft of the Police Identity Card, the citizen should contact (by phone or email) the competent Issuing Authority and request an appointment to issue a new Identity Card. Finally, natural persons can schedule an appointment for themselves and on behalf of third parties to issue or replace a new type of identity card, except in special cases (loss, theft, damage) and through the KEP
