Girl group NewJeans‘ ‘Ditto‘ was named one of the ‘Best Songs of the 2020s’ by American music magazine Paste.

Recently, Paste announced ‘The 100 Best Songs of the 2020s So Far’ and ranked ‘Dito’, a song from New Genes’ single ‘OMG’, at 23rd place.

In this list of pop stars’ works, ‘Dito’ is the only K-pop song. Other global pop stars include Billie Eilish, Caesar, Fiona Apple, and The 1975.

Paste introduced New Genes and ‘Dito’, saying, “Considering the current state of K-pop in the 2020s, no group has risen as rapidly as New Genes, and ‘Dito’ is one of the best songs.”

He continued, “New Jeans boldly throws away the flashy EDM and excessively sweet maximalism of the current K-pop, and presents a more groovy and elegant future.” “It can be said to be a representative work that perfectly demonstrates their explosive star quality,” he explained.

‘Dito’, released on December 19, 2022, is a song that stands out with its cozy melody and New Jeans’ warm vocals.

New Jeans entered the US Billboard main song chart ‘Hot 100’ and the UK’s official single ‘Top 100’ just 6 months after their debut with ‘Dito’.

On Melon, a major domestic music site, it set a record of being No. 1 on the daily chart for 99 consecutive days and the weekly chart for 14 consecutive weeks. It swept to the top of the comprehensive annual chart in 2023.

In Paste’s ‘The 100 Greatest EPs of All Time’ released last month, New Genes’ second EP ‘Get Up‘ was ranked 52nd.

Paste commented, “This album, which contains 6 songs in just 12 minutes, presents a sophisticated and subtle sound that combines R&B and club atmosphere in a way that has not been used well in K-pop before.” He then said, “With the release of this album, New Genes has once again reached a new level,” highlighting the group’s No. 1 record on the Billboard 200.

New Jeans reached the top of the US Billboard 200 in the shortest period of time since debut among all K-pop groups.

Meanwhile, the album’s triple title songs ‘Super Shy’, ‘ETA’, and ‘Cool With You’ were placed on the ‘Hot 100’ all at once.
