Director Shin Woo-seok of Dolphin Kidnapping Group, who directed the music video for the group New Jeans, has demanded an apology from his agency Adore.
Director Shin Woo-suk posted on his social media account, “CEO Kim Joo-young, Vice President Lee Do-kyung, I have the recording and emails, so stop lying,” and “In Adore’s statement, I said I was the one spreading false information, so why are you trying so hard to contact me and persuade me behind my back?”
The new director said, “I received legal advice, and as previously agreed, the ownership of the Ban Hee-soo channel belongs to the Dolphin Kidnapping Group, but the rights to the channel are not particularly important to the Dolphin Kidnapping Group.” He added, “We are satisfied as long as the Ban Hee-soo channel exists as an extension of the work. This channel was created from the beginning for the fans without any compensation, and I do not want to see fans anxious that it will be permanently deleted amidst disputes.”
Meanwhile, Director Shin stated, “I only have one demand: an apology.” He added, “An apology for the extreme corrective action demands that did not respect our partners, an apology for ignoring the existing agreement and talking about copyright infringement, and an apology for criticizing the Dolphin Kidnapping Group and CEO Shin Woo-seok through a statement.” He said that if an apology was received by that day, he would move the Ban Hee-soo channel to Adore. However, Director Shin emphasized, “It is an absolute preservation condition,” and “It must be operated with the principle of absolute preservation where nothing on the channel is deleted, modified, or added.”
The Dolphin Kidnapping Group run by the new director has directed music videos for New Jeans’ “Ditto,” “OMG,” and “ETA.” At the time, they created a separate YouTube channel called “Banheesoo” for content related to “Ditto” and uploaded several videos featuring New Jeans. They also recently released a director’s cut of the “ETA” music video on their YouTube channel.
However, the videos were deleted on the 2nd. Director Shin stated that he could not release the content due to Adore’s request for deletion.
In response, Adore stated on the 3rd, “The ‘ETA’ music video director’s cut that Dolphin Kidnapping Group posted on their own SNS channel is an edited version that includes parts that were previously discussed with the advertiser, and it was posted without permission without consultation with the advertiser.” They continued, “The copyright for New Jeans’ music video and all related works belongs to Adore according to the contract between Adore and Dolphin Kidnapping Group, and therefore the ‘ETA’ music video and its edited versions (including the director’s cut) must be posted on our official channel.”
In the process, Adore stated, “We only requested that the Dolphin Kidnapping Group stop posting the director’s cut video, and we have not requested that any videos related to New Jeans, including the Ban Hee-soo channel, be deleted or uploaded. Adore’s channel operation policy has not changed either.”
In addition, “Dolphin Kidnapping Group director Shin Woo-seok is spreading false information to the effect that Adore demanded the deletion of not only the director’s cut video but also all videos related to New Jeans, including the Ban Hee-soo channel,” and added, “Adore would like to inform you that director Shin Woo-seok’s claims are significantly different from the facts, and we strongly regret Dolphin Kidnapping Group’s breach of contract and spreading false information.”
