Shin Woo-seok, the CEO of film and advertising studio Dolphin Kidnapping Group, who directed music videos for the group New Jeans’ representative songs “Ditto” and “ETA,” is finally taking legal action against New Jeans’ agency, Adore.
On the 10th, CEO Shin stated on his social media, “Since you have not apologized, we will sequentially submit or disclose the recordings, emails, and materials we have as needed, and sue CEO Kim Joo-young and Vice-CEO Lee Do-kyung for defamation.”
He said, “In the statement, Adore stated that the director’s cut that they took issue with was something that the three companies had agreed on up until the ending, and there was a request for a partial tagline modification, and there are still no issues with uploading the video. Nevertheless, Adore is causing damage by dragging in a third party for the sake of the dispute.”
CEO Shin and Adore are also in conflict over the New Jeans music video. Adore is known to be taking issue with New Jeans’ copyright and portrait rights that exist in non-official accounts. This is an area where there was no conflict with Adore under former CEO Min Hee-jin.
Currently, Adore under the leadership of Kim Joo-young is refuting, saying, “The music video production service contract between Adore and Dolphin Kidnapping Group stipulates that Adore owns not only the music video but also the rights to secondary works. Therefore, posting a video containing New Jeans’ intellectual property (IP) on the Dolphin Kidnapping Group channel without Adore’s approval is a clear violation of the service contract.”
