‘New Jeans Monk’ Yoon Seong-ho said he was waiting for New Jeans’ protest.
On the KBS Radio Cool FM ‘Park Myung-soo’s Radio Show’ broadcast on the morning of the 19th, Yoon Seong-ho, who is currently active as the supporting character ‘New Jinsnim’, appeared and shared a story.
Regarding his role as a monk character, Yoon Sung-ho said, “It’s not that the Jogye Order pushed me, but rather that they supported me because they thought I was promoting Buddhism more since young people like my performances.” Park Myeong-su responded with interest, saying, “It seems like a sophisticated method. It seems like Buddhism is also carrying out sophisticated missionary work through monks.”
Regarding the name New Jin Seunim, Yoon Seong-ho explained, “It is a Buddhist name created by combining New, meaning new, and Jin, meaning to advance. It is actually a Buddhist name given to me by a monk.”
When asked, “Isn’t this targeting Newzine’s algorithm?” he answered leisurely, “Many people think so, but it’s up to you.”
There was no protest from New Jeans. Yoon Sung-ho said, “I hope (the protest) comes a little bit. They don’t even pay attention to me. They seem to be busy with other things,” causing laughter.
In the second part, he was interviewed as the main character, Yoon Sung-ho. When asked, “Did your income increase as the supporting character, New Jinsun?”, he said, “New Jinsun doesn’t make money. I make money. I manage everything I earn.” He added, “I think my income is about two-thirds of Park Myung-soo’s, and my pay is about the same.”
Meanwhile, Monk New Jin is a supporting character of broadcaster Yoon Sung Ho, who is well known as ‘Ppakgoo’. While working as Monk New Jin, Yoon Sung Ho has appeared on stage at various Buddhist events. Monk New Jin is a name that parodies the group New Jin, but it is also his actual Buddhist name.
Gaining great popularity among Buddhist circles and the younger generation, Monk New Jins held an EDM performance at the 2024 Seoul International Buddhist Expo in April. He also held overseas performances in Taiwan, Malaysia, and Hong Kong to promote K-Buddhism.
