Google has redesigned its maps platform. Android users will soon see new markers and other changes.

Google Maps has received a design update and is replacing the familiar pins on Android devices with new round markers. As “9to5Google” reports, these new symbols take up less space and thus allow more of them to be placed on the map. They also have a white border that makes them stand out better from the background.

According to the report, the new markers are circular and have a slight curve towards the location marked. This is intended to help with orientation, as the icons are more clearly visible. According to “9to5Google”, there are also new colors for some categories such as museums and public parks.

The change affects both the mobile and web versions of Google Maps. Google had already updated the color scheme of the map application in 2022. Now the next step follows with the markers.

The new view is designed to help users find their way around the app better and reach their destination more quickly. The new design was implemented on the server side and should therefore soon be visible to everyone. The red pin that has always appeared when you tap and hold on a location or enter an address remains unchanged.

In addition to the new markings, Google recently revised the menu navigation for Android devices. The number of individual tabs in the lower navigation bar was reduced from five to three. Only “Explore”, “Contribute” and “For You” remained. The latter contains the previously separate “Saved” and “New” areas.
