New Mexico United Signs Promising Forward Joseph Melto Quiah for 2026 Season
New Mexico United has announced the signing of forward Joseph Melto Quiah, bolstering their attack ahead of the 2026 USL Championship season. The transaction is currently pending approval from both the league and relevant soccer federations.
A senior official with the club described Quiah as “an exciting young prospect” who demonstrated “real attacking quality” during preseason training. The team is eager to integrate him into their squad for the upcoming campaign.
Quiah arrives in Albuquerque following a 2025 season with Toronto FC II in the MLS NEXT Pro league. He was initially drafted by Toronto FC in the Third Round of the 2025 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, marking a significant step in his professional career. Prior to joining the professional ranks, Quiah established himself as a standout player during a three-year collegiate career at the University of Dayton.
During his time with the Flyers, Quiah amassed an impressive record of 14 goals and 16 assists across 47 appearances. His senior season proved to be his most productive yet, with a career-high eight goals and six assists. This performance earned him recognition as a United Soccer Coaches All-America Second Team selection, as well as a First Team honoree for both the All-Southeast Region and All-Atlantic 10 Conference.
The forward’s roots extend beyond North American soccer. Originally hailing from Montserrado, Liberia, Quiah made his debut with the Liberian senior national team at just 16 years old while playing for LISCR FC in his home country. He also represented Liberia at the U-17 and U-20 levels, demonstrating his commitment to international competition before pursuing opportunities in the United States.
Quiah’s journey reflects a dedication to the sport and a burgeoning talent that New Mexico United hopes will contribute to their success in the years to come. His signing signals the club’s commitment to developing promising young players and strengthening their position within the USL Championship.
