jpnn.comJAKARTA – The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) issued a new MUI Fatwa No. 14/Ijtima’ Ulama/VIII/2024 on Wednesday (31/7/2024).

The fatwa is about Priority of Using Domestic Productswhich outlines 10 criteria for national products that are eligible for support to replace products boycotted due to their affiliation with Israel.

The latest MUI fatwa was previously decided at the VIII Indonesian Fatwa Commission Ulama Ijtima’ which was held at the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Center Islamic Boarding School, Sungailiat, Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands on May 28-31, 2024.

In a written statement received on Wednesday (31/7), MUI stated that the 10 criteria for national products are national ownership, domestic sources of raw materials, domestic supply chains, national innovation and technology, environmentally friendly policies, support for domestic communities, quality and safety, empowerment of the national workforce, transparency and business ethics, and diversity and inclusivity.

Responding to this, Arif Fahrudin, Deputy Secretary General of MUI, said that the public should not immediately boycott products without knowing the truth.

“We don’t want the boycott to be misdirected and impact national companies. Sometimes people are confused, this brand comes with a foreign name, what foreign franchise needs to be boycotted. Here we want to emphasize that we do not teach people to just boycott products without knowing the truth. Foreign brands or franchises as long as they meet the 10 criteria for national products must be supported,” said Arif Fahrudin to the media in Jakarta on Tuesday (6/8/2024).

Answering public questions about a number of franchise brands such as KFC, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, as well as local brands that were previously boycotted, such as the makeup brand Rose All Day, Arif Fahrudin said that here the public must be smart and find out a lot.

One of the criteria states that national companies that are worthy of support are those that have a positive impact on Indonesian society, including empowering the national workforce, with management staff from Indonesian citizens and these national companies are worthy of support.
