After airbags, seat belts, memories of Citroën, Peugeot or Fiat vehicles from the Stellantis group, the memories follow each other but not the same. At this time, Conso Rappel website alert on two new problems that are dangerous for passengers and which require owners to go to the garage to fix.

The first concerns hybrid vehicles from Opel with models from Grandland X, Citroën DS7 Crossback or C5 Aircross and 508 Peugeot. According to Rappel Conso, “battery management software cannot detect certain battery failure conditions. In the affected vehicles, there may be a fault in the high voltage battery, which could lead to overheating. This increases the risk of fire in the vehicle.”

These concerned models were produced between July 2, 2019 and March 10, 2021. For owners, it is necessary to contact their dealer. According to the group, the problem encountered by these vehicles is high voltage batteries. “Our regular quality checks have shown that some of our plug-in hybrid models are equipped with high voltage batteries which may not meet the correct specifications,” explained the group in a press release. In general, the 2,400 vehicles of these brands will be affected.

To repair the cars, it will be necessary to “replace the high voltage battery”, according to Stellantis. The exchange takes between 5.5 and 6.5 hours, depending on the model. The operating cost for the manufacturer is about 6,000 euros per change. Before making these repairs, Stellantis asks owners to “stop charging” the battery. This is without using the “e-Save” mode, allowing you to “save electronic energy in anticipation of a restricted traffic area”.

Risk of loosening of the ground connection

The second error at this time affects many cars from the brands Citroën, Peugeot or Fiat. Conso Rappel warns: “The ground connections can become loose, which can lead to the loss of many vehicle functions and lead to unintended acceleration or the vehicle catching fire,” advises Conso Rappel, specifying that the Citroën Jumpy, Fiat Scudo or Peugeot Expert are among the cars. March 10, 2023 and January 31, 2024.

Although the Stellantis group, with its damaged reputation, is not the only one to make recalls, all brands are facing them because of frequent and detailed checks, this is starting to do a lot for the French manufacturer.

Repeated problems

While Citroën and DS are still facing the Takata airbag recall campaign in France, the manufacturer has just announced the recall of 332,000 Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Jeep models in the United States this time, due to airbag sensor failure. “The seat belt sensor may have been improperly connected, preventing the front seat airbags from deploying as intended” during a crash, explains the American Highway Safety Agency (NHTSA). The catch is that Stellantis admits that the fix requires “the installation of a part that doesn’t currently exist.” So the adjustment will be possible only from the third quarter of 2024.

Last year, thousands of owners of the 1.2 PureTech engine which supplied Peugeot, Citroën and DS in particular, suffered several mechanical problems.
