Halili and Waidmannsheil – More people in Germany are familiar with these hunting greetings than ever before. For the first time there are more than 400,000 hunters in Germany – a new record!
To be precise, 403 420 women and men currently have a hunting license in Germany. According to the German Hunting Association (DJV), that is 6006 more than in the previous year and over 51,000 more people within a decade.
▶ ︎ Most hunters live in North Rhine-Westphalia: 93,751. Lower Saxony is in second place with 60,000, followed by Baden-Württemberg with 55,150.
In relation to the number of inhabitants, the picture is different: with 8.2 hunters per 1000 inhabitants, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is the front runner, closely followed by Schleswig-Holstein (8.1). Lower Saxony follows in third place (7.5).
Biologist and DJV spokesman Torsten Reinwald on BILD: “The DJV welcomes the development. More and more people are tackling the 180-hour training course. Motivation number one: an intense experience of nature. If you want to catch prey, I have to put you in the world of wild animals and have a good knowledge of the species. “
