“No matter which team we face, we will always create a winning team.”

These are the words of Daejeon Dong-gu Office coach Yang Dong-hoon, whom we met during the 102nd Donga Ilbo National Soft Tennis Competition. Daejeon Dong-gu Office, founded in January of this year, is a men’s soft tennis team created for the first time in 9 years. Daejeon Dong-gu Office is the 11th men’s soft tennis team.

Coach Yang said, “There are teams in Daejeon from elementary schools to universities, but with awareness of the problem of not having an industrial team, there has been talk about creating a soft tennis team at the city level since the year before last.” He added, “At the same time, among Daejeon, Dong-gu has the most youth teams. “There were many, so we founded the team at Dong-gu Office.”

Daejeon has 4 elementary school teams, 3 middle school teams, 2 high school teams, and 1 male college team. With the establishment of a business team at Dong-gu Office in Daejeon, young players were able to systematically develop their soft tennis skills and join the team.

Coach Yang said, “I was actually scared to take on a new challenge because I had been a coach at Hoengseong High School for 14 years,” but added, “I graduated from Daejeon University, so I knew that if I could create a good business team, Daejeon’s soft tennis talent would no longer be leaked out.” “I took charge of directing with my thoughts,” he said.

When Coach Yang took charge of a new team, he first looked for players who could serve as the team’s ‘center point’. That player is Kim Hyun-soo (36). Kim Hyun-soo, who participated in the Hangzhou Asian Games with the Taegeuk symbol last year, transferred to the Dong-gu Office team as the first captain when Dalseong-gun Office, where he originally played, was disbanded.

Director Yang said, “Hyeonsu really never rests. “The players gathered together and started training on January 2nd of this year, and Hyunsu, the eldest, worked diligently, so his younger siblings followed him,” he said. “A captain with this ‘captain-like’ attitude was definitely needed for the new team.”

Kim Hyun-soo said, “As I get older, I do personal strength training for more than an hour every day in addition to team training to prevent my physical strength from decreasing. Even though my younger brothers are young, when they lose a game, they work hard to find their own strengths and exercise hard, so we “The team has ample potential for development,” he said. At Daejeon Dong-gu Office, everyone is in their 20s except Kim Hyun-soo. The youngest, Yang Il-hyeon, was born in 2000, 12 years younger than Kim Hyun-soo.

Daejeon Dong-gu Office did not achieve any notable results in the Dong-A Ilbo, which ends on the 12th. Coach Yang said he was very disappointed because it was a competition that could have announced the news of its founding and victory throughout the country.

Coach Yang said, “Our team is good at fighting, but in fact, there are still many areas that need to be improved in terms of teamwork. “I think we have not yet achieved good results because this aspect has been especially exposed in team competitions,” he said. “But as the city provides infinite support, such as dispatching Sports Science Center employees to the stadium, our true value will soon be revealed.”

Kim Hyun-soo said, “It hasn’t been long since I worked with my new doubles partner Lee Jun-hee (29), but I will lead my younger brother well and emerge as a new powerhouse in the men’s soft tennis world.”
