A new contender is entering the electric vehicle market in Spain, promising a compelling blend of performance, features, and affordability. The geely EX5, the Chinese automaker’s first all-electric vehicle to be sold under its own brand in the country, is poised to challenge established players in the C-SUV and D-SUV segments.
The arrival of the EX5 comes as demand grows for vehicles carrying the “ZERO†environmental label — a designation awarded to zero-emission vehicles offering significant benefits, including access to restricted urban areas and tax incentives. While many electric options around 4.6 meters in length come with a premium price tag, Geely is positioning the EX5 as a value-driven alternative.
Power and Performance
The Geely EX5 will initially launch with a single electric motor delivering 217 horsepower. According to official details, this powertrain generates 320 Nm of torque and is paired with an automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The vehicle boasts a top speed of 175 km/h (electronically limited) and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a brisk 6.9 seconds.
Powering the EX5 is a 60.2 kWh battery pack, offering a range of approximately 425-430 km depending on the vehicle’s configuration. The vehicle supports up to 160 kW of power at super-fast charging outlets and features an 11 kW onboard charger.
Dimensions and Practicality
The Geely EX5 measures 4.615 mm in length, 1.901 mm in width, and 1.670 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2.750 mm. The trunk offers a generous 461 liters of space, expanding to 1,877 liters with the rear seats folded down.
Feature-Rich Standard Equipment
Geely is emphasizing a high level of standard equipment on the EX5. All models will include smart LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision warning, a speed assistant with traffic sign recognition, blind spot detection, parking sensors, an electric handbrake, an anti-theft alarm, and a 360-degree view camera.
Additional standard features include heated mirrors, alloy wheels, automatic climate control, keyless entry and start, a heat pump, digital instrumentation, a 15.4-inch multimedia touchscreen with mobile connectivity, electrically adjustable and heated seats, a photosensitive interior mirror, a multifunction steering wheel, and a rain sensor.
Higher trim levels will add features such as a Head-Up Display, a panoramic roof, ventilated and massaging front seats, an electric tailgate, a complete LED interior lighting system with 256 colors, and a premium sound system with 16 speakers. The specific equipment levels available in Spain have not yet been confirmed.
Competitive Pricing
One of the most compelling aspects of the Geely EX5 is its anticipated price point. according to reports from other European markets, the fully equipped version of the EX5 is available for around €37,000. “This represents a very competitive figure,†one analyst noted, “especially when compared to rivals in the electric C-SUV and D-SUV segments.†In certain specific cases, the EX5 is expected to offer a price advantage of over €10,000 compared to similarly equipped competitors.
The Geely EX5 will join the starray hybrid in the Spanish market, further expanding the brand’s presence and offering consumers a wider range of electrified vehicle options. The launch of the EX5 signals Geely’s commitment to providing accessible and feature-rich electric vehicles to European consumers.
