by times news cr

An Egyptian source announced, “The conclusion of the Doha talks for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip with the participation of the head of intelligence, Minister Abbas Kamel, the Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman, and a delegation from Hamas headed by Khalil Al-Hayya.”

The source said: “The Doha talks were serious,” stressing that “they represent a sign of hope for ending the crisis in the Gaza Strip.”

For its part, Hamas, in a statement, welcomed “the Egyptian-Qatari role and their efforts in the indirect negotiations to stop the aggression against our people,” stressing “its continued positivity and flexibility in order to reach an agreement to cease fire in the Gaza Strip and withdraw the occupation army from the entire territory of the Gaza Strip, in a way that achieves the interests of our people and opens the way for a prisoner exchange deal, relief for our people, the return of the displaced, and reconstruction.”

The movement stressed its “readiness to immediately implement the ceasefire agreement based on President Biden’s declaration, Security Council Resolution 2735, and what was previously agreed upon, without setting any new demands, and its rejection of any new conditions on this agreement by any party.”

The statement stressed the movement’s rejection of “any projects related to the post-cessation of aggression on the Gaza Strip, while stressing that the management of the Strip is an internal Palestinian affair that is agreed upon with an agreed-upon Palestinian vision.”

Hamas concluded its statement by stressing its “responsiveness to the efforts of the mediators, and the continuation of their role and efforts to reach a ceasefire, the withdrawal of the occupation army from the entire territory of the Gaza Strip, relief for our people, the exchange of prisoners, and reconstruction.”

The Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip are still ongoing since October 7, 2023. The Israeli attack has so far resulted in more than 41,000 deaths and about 95,000 injuries, most of whom are children and women, while more than 10,000 people are still missing.

In a related context, The Israeli Military Intelligence Division published a document that it claimed was addressed by Rafeh Salama, commander of the Khan Yunis Brigade in the Qassam Brigades, to the movement’s leader Yahya Sinwar and his brother Muhammad.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant reviewed the document, claiming that it “describes the difficult situation facing Hamas.”

“While the first page of the document reviewed by Galant shows comments on the proposed prisoner exchange deal between Israel and the resistance factions in the Gaza Strip, regarding the numbers and categories that the proposal might include,” Galant claimed, “the document shows ‘the destruction of 70% of Hamas’ weapons and 95% of its missiles,’ and ‘the killing or wounding of 50%’ of the movement’s fighters and ‘the escape of many of them,’ so that ‘only 20% remain.”
