After months of rumors and leaks of spy photos, Triumph has officially presented this Tuesday, June 27, its new and expected Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X 2024his first two medium displacement motorcycles as a result of his recent commercial agreement with the Indian giant Bajaj.
Conceived and designed in Hinckley, UK, these two new additions to the Triumph Modern Classics family are instantly recognizable with their timeless Triumph silhouette, distinctive sculpted tank and classic engine profile, whose design evokes the same level of quality, attractiveness and presence of its larger displacement sisters.
Traditional touches, such as the distinctive finned stock and exquisite manifold clamp, are combined with modern solutions such as the design of the exhaust system with the muffler inclined upwards, the bold graphics and subtly camouflaged technology, such as liquid cooling and the straight exhaust design with hidden catalytic converter.
Named ‘TR’ to honor Triumph’s historic ‘Trophy’ nomenclature – whose roots go back to early 20th century single-cylinder racing, and in particular the Six Days of Trials – this new single-cylinder Euro5 engine has a displacement of 398 ccfuel injection and liquid cooling, and stands out for its double overhead camshaft (DOHC) cylinder head and four valves, offering a final power of 40 hp and a maximum torque of 37.5 Nm.
The crankshaft is perfectly balanced to optimize inertia, especially when driving at low speeds. Distribution via low-mass rocker arms with DLC coating Reduces friction for better engine revs and incredible traction.
The six-speed gearbox allows for easy and precise gear selection, and its development is optimized to get the most out of this spectacular engine loaded with character and torque. The assisted slipper clutch reduces the effort required to operate the lever and adds a plus of security when reducing.
The Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X benefit from a narrow seat in the leg area which, combined with a seat height of just 790mm and 835mm respectively and a weight of 170 kg. and 179 kg., ensures safe handling at low speeds and great ease of use when maneuvering with your feet on the ground.
Each model has a specific cycle part, with a new frame, bolt-on subframe and cast aluminum swingarmin addition to a suspension configuration adapted to each use, but always providing Triumph’s famous easy, agile and dynamic handling.
The Speed 400 equips a 43mm inverted fork and a rear mono-shock absorber with an independent tank, in addition to some light 17-inch wheels that are complemented by geometries and wheelbase with a markedly classic sporty character. The powerful front brake features four-piston radial calipermetal hose and a 300 mm disc that provides excellent braking feel.
For its part, the Scrambler 400 X offers a longer wheelbase, as well as a longer travel of the suspensions, a larger front wheel (19 inches) and wider handlebars for greater stability and control when riding off-road surfaces, as well as providing a typical Scrambler riding position: more upright and commanding.
The cast steel brake pedal is larger on the Scrambler, and the high-grip footpegs are located lower and wider for a more natural riding position when riding off-road, while the front brake disc is also larger in diameter (320mm) and the optimized pad compound provides more progressive, confidence-inspiring braking on all the conditions
In the technological section, the Bosch control unit and the electronic accelerator offer a linear and intuitive response with a predictable power delivery, which improves driving, safety and control. The traction control system is disengageable on both models.so that the rider can activate and deactivate the intervention quickly and easily through the panel.

The instrument panel, clear and contemporary in style, incorporates a classic speedometer and an integrated LCD display that includes digital tachometer, range and a prominent gear indicator, all clearly visible in any lighting condition.
Access to all panel functionalities is done intuitively from a handlebar-mounted button. The panel is arranged to display the status of the accessory heated grips, if fitted. Plus, there’s a conveniently located USB-C power outlet that allows for on-the-go charging of handlebar-mounted devices such as a smartphone or GPS.
Designed for increased performance and presence that result in safety, powerful LED headlamp incorporates Triumph’s unmistakable Daytime Running Light (DRL), while the rear lamp features a modern design, with molded guides and the Triumph logo. Slender, contemporary style indicators complete the elegant full LED lighting package.
Both models will be launched in India starting in August. and they will be on sale in the rest of the world at the beginning of 2024, at which time the prices will be announced for each market, including the Spanish one. The Speed 400 can be chosen in two-tone paint schemes, in Carnival Red, Caspian Blue or Phantom Black.

In the case of the Scrambler 400 X, to reinforce and accentuate its off-road attitude, a multitude of useful details and off-road focus stand out, such as the protectors for the headlight, the radiator and the crankcase, the hand guards, the handlebar with pad and a longer front fender. The Scrambler 400 X will be available in three color schemes, all with a distinctive ‘Scrambler’ stripe and Triumph triangular shield on the tank: Matt Khaki Green with Fusion White, Carnival Red with Phantom Black and Phantom Black with Silver Ice.
